Across the Border: A Trip to VINS

  • Vermont Institute of Natural Science 6565 Woodstock Rd. Quechee, VT 05059

From the VINS Nature Blog...an incredibly tiny, newly emerged Wood Frog, about to be released to the wild.

If you're up for seeing raptors and songbirds up close, the Vermont Institute of Natural Science is your place. Here you'll find specialists in wildlife research and rehabilitation, working with everything from baby Blue Jays to hatchling Painted Turtles to full-grown Great Horned Owls. They have several exhibits and live-animal presentations for us throughout the day, and even a scavenger hunt to test the best of us! There's no better place to help us imagine what life through a bird's eyes really looks like.

(To whet your appetite, check out the "Patient Cam" to see the baby birds that VINS is taking care of!)

We've been given a special admission price: $4 for Harriers' members and $11 for adults. We'll meet there at 10:00 a.m. Visit the VINS website to learn more about what you can expect to see at the Institute! R.S.V.P. to nhyoungbirders@gmail.com if you plan to attend.
