What sounds more ghostly than a ghost, guaranteed to make your heart thump like a pileated woodpecker? When the hoot of an owl breaks through the silence, the whole night seems to shiver. A short walk on a March evening in woods outside of Hancock, NH, should bring us some luck: Barred Owl, Saw-whet Owl, and Great Horned Owl are all possibilities. We’ll gather inside the Willard Pond cottage after our prowl to share hot chocolate and a warm toasty fire. Meet in the Willard Pond parking lot at 7:00 pm. See map for directions. This event is co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education and will include a contingent of adult birders as well.
