One of the richest—and least often visited—of New Hampshire’s habitats is the open ocean. The Harriers will embark on their inaugural pelagic boat trip, joining an NH Audubon group aboard the MV Granite State, to explore our coastal waters. We’ll spend all day at sea, hoping to find Northern Gannets, shearwaters, storm-petrels, and maybe, if we’re lucky, the cartoonishly lovely Atlantic Puffin. We’ll keep an eye out for whales, seals, and porpoises as well. Steve Mirick, who knows this stretch of coast and its inhabitants as well as anyone, will be our birding guide. The cost of this trip for all young birders themselves will be covered in full by the Club. Parents, as always, are welcome and encouraged to attend; cost of their tickets are $65 for NH Audubon members, $85 for non-members. Meet dockside in Rye Harbor at 7:30AM for an 8:00 departure. Please bring warm and preferably waterproof clothes, drinking water, food for lunch, and your binoculars. Contact the YBC Coordinators or Massabesic Audubon Center (phone 603-668-2045, email email@example.com) for more information about this special opportunity. All participants must register in advance, space permitting.
